ARCHIVED - Covid passport in Murcia only mandatory in nightlife venues
Other establishments in the Region can choose to adopt the measure
The regional government of Murcia applied to the Superior Court of Justice (TSJ) on Tuesday December 7 for authorisation to implement the use of a Covid passport in the Region. But the health authorities have since clarified that the certificate will only be made mandatory in nightlife venues such as discos, and not across the entire hospitality and leisure industry.
In these other businesses, the choice to ask patrons for a Covid passport will remain optional, but bars and restaurants that do decide to implement the measure will have the benefit of larger capacity allowances, according to the Minister of Health, Juan José Pedreño.
Establishments that DO request a Covid passport
These businesses will be subject to regional alert levels, which are currently as follows:
- Levels 1 and 2: a capacity of 100% indoors
- Level 3: a capacity of 75% indoors
- Level 4: a capacity of 50% indoors
Establishments that DO NOT request a Covid passport
These businesses will be governed by the municipal alert levels, which are:
- Levels 1 and 2: a capacity of 75% indoors
- Level 3: a capacity of 50% indoors
- Level 4: a capacity of 30% indoors
Nightlife venues
These establishments must ask for a Covid passport, which shows that the patron has been double jabbed, has recovered from coronavirus, or has had a negative test. They will also have to follow the municipal rules.
The measure will not come into effect until it is approved by the TSJ but it is then expected to be implemented immediately. The health department will announce what alert level each municipality is at on the same day.
The Region’s decision to implement the Covid passport hinges on the fact that infections in Murcia have been steadily growing and the cumulative incidence rate has already reached 315.4 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
