December 6 Christmas light switch-on in Puerto Lumbreras
The municipality will switch on nearly 600,000 LED lights to fill the area with Christmas cheer
With an increase of nearly 25% on last year, the Christmas lights around Puerto Lumbreras are set to bring even more Christmas cheer this year – around a quarter more, in fact. As well as that, this year more than 1,500 poinsettias and natural pine trees will be planted and a special programme of events has been prepared in Puerto Lumbreras.
December 6 will be the official date for the holidays to begin in Puerto Lumbreras, as the mayor, María de los Ángeles Túnez announced that “December 6, we will welcome Christmas in Puerto Lumbreras with the switching on of nearly 600,000 LED lights that will illuminate the entire municipality and with which the Christmas spirit will invade our town and the special light and colour of the town will encourage residents and visitors to make purchases.”
There will be outdoor lights with special Christmassy shapes, plus arches of lights and “luminous curtains”.
The mayor has also stated that she has prioritised the “best quality, following all safety regulations and high energy efficiency, with LED technology that deepens environmental care and economic savings” when it comes to the lights which have been used in the town.
In addition to the Christmas lighting, there will also be the planting of more than 1,500 poinsettias and the placement of natural pine trees in the main streets and squares of the town.
Finally, the mayor wished to “invite all the residents of Lumbreras and the citizens of the neighbouring towns to enjoy these festivities in Puerto Lumbreras, where they can make their Christmas purchases in our commercial establishments and local establishments.”
The Christmas lights will be on from December 6 until January 6, from 6pm every evening to 2am. During Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the lights will be on until 6am.
