Discover the most talkative towns in Spain
Three Andalucía cities have made the top 5 for being home to the most chatterboxes
The Spanish love to chat. Whether it’s long, leisurely gossips over tapas and beer or shooting the breeze at the supermarket till, it’s hard to get a word in edgeways. But from where in Spain, you might ask, do the most chatterboxes hail?
This question has been answered with a survey carried out by the Preply platform, which surveyed more than 2,035 residents of the 20 most populated cities in the country to rate them out of 10 for their talkativeness and as it turns out, Andalucía is home to three of the most talkative cities in the nation.
Córdoba is at the very top of the list with a score of 6.80, followed by Granada in second place with 6.70. Sevilla drops a position to fourth with 6.56 points.
Rivalling the Andalusians for their love of lively conversation is the favourite British holiday destination of Palma de Mallorca, where a very respectable score of 6.60 puts it in second place. Rounding off the top 5 are Vigo and La Coruña, both with 6.55.
If it’s peace and quiet you’re looking for, best head to the likes of San Sebastián and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which came in at the bottom of the list with a score of 6.29 and 6.17, respectively.
According to the report, the average Spaniard talks to six people a day outside of work, simply for pleasure. The most frequent discussions tend to focus on conversations around news and TV series with family and friends, giving directions to strangers on the street and when talking to bar staff and waiters.
Although the differences are minimal, those aged between 16 and 24 tend to be less chatty but what might surprise some people is that the score is practically identical between men and women.
