Two people in Torre Pacheco, Murcia, are under investigation after a badly injured dog was found dumped in a rubbish container. The Guardia Civil states that the animal was beaten, put into a bag and thrown into the bin.

 

The case began when the dog’s owner discovered his small mixed breed pet inside a nearby container. The dog was still alive but in a very poor state. It was rushed to a veterinary clinic, where it was admitted with serious injuries and a suspected cervical fracture.

 

Officers from SEPRONA, the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service, took charge of the investigation and gathered evidence at the scene. According to their inquiries, the incident appears to have started when the dog wandered into a neighbouring house. Shortly afterwards, a person was seen leaving that property carrying a paper bag, which is believed to have contained the injured dog, and throwing it into the rubbish container.

 

The investigation has now led to the identification of two individuals, who have been formally named as suspected perpetrators of animal abuse.

 

The Guardia Civil has linked the case to its wider #YoSiPuedoContarlo campaign, launched in July 2017 to encourage people to report cruelty to domestic animals. The force notes that public awareness is rising, not only through official complaints but also via social media, where appeals for help in solving animal abuse cases generate strong reactions. The campaign also reminds the public that keeping an animal is a serious responsibility and that mistreatment is a criminal offence under the Penal Code.
