ARCHIVED - easyJet forks out more than 1K euros to disgruntled Spanish passenger for delayed flight
The compensated passenger was travelling from Almeria to London on a family holiday

A woman from Almeria has hit the proverbial jackpot by claiming, and more importantly being paid, 1,200 euros by budget airline easyJet after her flight from Spain to the UK was delayed.
The passenger, identified only as Bárbara GL, was travelling from Almeria to London with her husband and daughter back in August of 2019 on a flight that was due to depart at 10.05am.
Once they boarded the plane, the crew announced that the flight was delayed "due to technical problems," and proceeded to evacuate the aircraft.
"We did not know what was happening. It was also the first time we were going to fly by plane, so everything went through our heads," says Bárbara, who added that the airline offered no further explanation about the cause of the disruption.
Once they arrived back in the departure hall, passengers were dismayed to learn that they now weren’t due to take off until 1.58pm, almost four hours late. The plane eventually left Almeria after a 3 hour and 53 minute delay, arriving in London shortly before 4pm.
When the family returned to Spain after their holiday in the UK, Bárbara contacted FACTUA Almeria, who sent several written claims to easyJet requesting compensation of 1,200 euros (400 euros for each of the passengers), for suffering through a delay of more than three hours.
The carrier initially refused to pay this amount, which is established by law, so the consumer rights association brought the case to the attention of the State Aviation Safety Agency (Aesa).
Eventually, on April 25 2022, easyJet authorised the compensation and the family was paid 1,200 euros.
This is far from being the carrier's biggest concern, however, as easyJet pilots across Spain are currently staging a strike until the end of the month for better pay and working conditions.
