Eight Kalashnikov rifles seized after high-speed police chase in Alicante
Four men with prior criminal records were arrested in Alicante after chase spilled into the Region of Murcia

Police in Alicante ended up in a high-speed chase that stretched all the way into the Region of Murcia after officers spotted a car tearing down the motorway between Alicante and Elche at what they described as “breakneck speed”.
Officers first tried to intercept the vehicle discreetly, but the moment the driver clocked their presence, he put his foot down and took off. What followed, according to the National Police, was an extremely dangerous pursuit that wound through several roads across the province, with officers scrambling to keep other drivers safe as the chase unfolded.
Things got a lot more serious when the driver started ramming police vehicles in an attempt to shake them off, at times exceeding 150 kilometres an hour. Officers said they felt their lives were “in grave danger” given the force of the impacts and the speeds involved. One patrol car was knocked clean off the road and sustained enough damage that it couldn't continue, forcing other units to keep up the chase alone.
The pursuit finally came to a head when the vehicle crossed into the Region of Murcia. After being rammed once more, the driver lost control, veered off the road and crashed into a field. He then bolted on foot, leaving the wrecked car behind, and officers weren't able to catch him at the scene.
Inside the abandoned vehicle, police found eight Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifles complete with magazines, weapons the force classes as weapons of war.
The discovery kicked off a fast-moving investigation that led officers to identify, track down and arrest four men, aged between 21 and 43, in Alicante and Sant Vicent del Raspeig. All four had prior convictions for serious offences, something police say made the speed of the operation even more critical.
The men now face charges including possession of weapons of war, membership of a criminal organisation, offences against traffic safety, assault on a law enforcement officer and criminal damage. All four have been brought before duty magistrates in Alicante.
