ARCHIVED - Elderly couple injured after being run over at a pedestrian crossing in Rincon de la Victoria
The driver, in her 70s, was driving slowly and claimed that she was “dazzled by the sun”
An elderly Spanish couple, both in their 80s, were injured on Tuesday October 19 after being hit by a vehicle’s wing mirrors as they crossed a pedestrian crossing near the new Supeco supermarket in Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga province.
The incident happened at the junction of Camino Viejo de Vélez-Málaga and Poeta Manuel Alcántara streets, where the Supersol supermarket used to be. The gentleman suffered a dislocated shoulder while the lady’s shoulder was fractured in the accident. Both were rushed first to the Rincón Health Centre and from there in an emergency ambulance to the Hospital Clínico, where they are currently being treated.
According to police sources, the driver of the vehicle, aged 70, “was driving very slowly” but, as she told the officers, “was dazzled by the sun”. She also claimed that due to vehicles in the supermarket’s loading and unloading area, she did not see the couple just as they were crossing the road.
Both were hit by one of the car’s wing mirrors and fell to the ground. Several police units were sent to the scene and opened proceedings for the accident.
