Envelope with 4,100 euros left to homeless foreign man at a lottery office in Malaga
The next day, the same Costa del Sol lottery office sold a winning ticket for 600,000 euros
In a heartwarming story with a bizarre twist in southern Spain, two unknown persons recently left an envelope with 4,100 euros for a homeless man. Also left for the man, sleeping next to a lottery office in Málaga, was a handwritten piece of paper.
Last Friday, at around 5pm, Agustín Giménez arrived at office number 4, 'La Tribuna', in the old town of the Málaga capital. Upon arriving, he found a foreign man of around 60 years of age in a state of intoxication lying on the floor.
When informed by a friend that a man and woman had left a sealed envelope for the homeless man, Mr Giménez inspected it. Through a corner of the envelope, it was possible for him to see that it contained money.
Giménez, who is the husband of the owner of the lottery office, took the envelope. He did so to prevent anyone from stealing it, before contacting the local police. The police then kept it as the custodian.
When the police opened the envelope they discovered that it held 4,100 euros in 20- and 50-euro notes. The envelope also held a religious painting and a piece of paper with a fragment of the Bible written upon it.
Meanwhile, the homeless man was taken by the health services to his home. The money was then returned to him by the police.
At the office of the lottery, they checked the CCTV images. Attaining a visual on the couple who left the envelope was unsuccessful owing to a blind spot in the place where they left the money.
But it doesn't end there. In an extraordinary coincidence, just 24 hours later the very same office sold the winning ticket to Saturday's lottery. Ticket number 37,984 took home 600,000 euros! A lucky week!
