ARCHIVED - Estepona to connect 11 kilometres of coastal path in boost for sustainable tourism
Works to connect up 11 kilometres of coastal walkways in Estepona are underway in a €919,103 project to promote sustainable tourism and offer residents and visitors a new way to enjoy the town’s beaches.
The first sections are now being prepared of a 625-metre-long, 4-metre-wide printed concrete walkway which will connect the path between the IKOS hotel and Park Beach urbanisation in Estepona’s Guadalmansa area.
The project will also see the creation of a 62.5-metre-long wooden bridge over the Guadalmansa river, the longest ever built in the town. Meanwhile, different species of native Mediterranean plants, including oleanders, poplars and reeds, will be planted out on both sides of the riverbank in a section stretching 3.7 kilometres.
The works are part of a larger scheme to join up 22.5 kilometres of Estepona’s coastline, and the Junta de Andalucia has already signed off on further plans for the western part of the municipality, where a small bridge will be built over the Arroyo Enmedio in a bid to make the most of the town’s attractive waterways for visitors and locals.
The current works, which are being co-financed by both Estepona Council and Malaga Provincial Council, are expected to take six months to complete and will be carried out by company UTE Rialsa Obras SL-Drainsal SLU.
