While the wintry scenes make for postcard pictures, the dumping of snow on the province has brought with it travel chaos and sent thermometers tumbling.
The cold storm battering Almeria hasn't just led to precipitation in the form of snow and sleet in mountainous areas or those susceptible to the chilly conditions, but also in municipalities that usually escape the worst of white blizzards, such as Carboneras.
On Tuesday afternoon, snow fell in several villages of the Sierra de los Filabres, the Alpujarra, the Almanzora, the Levante and Los Vélez, as well as Ohanes, Canjáyar, Bacares, Abrucena, Serón, Benizalón, Lucainena de las Torres and El Marchal in Enix.
And its arrival has caused road closures. As reported on Wednesday morning, January 25, by the Subdelegation of the Government, two roads in the province of Almeria remain closed to traffic: the A-1178 (Gérgal) and the A-1178 (Uleila del Campo). In addition, mountain passes are also closed for safety reasons due to heavy snowfall.
The white blizzards have also created hazardous conditions in Ohanes, according to Mayor Rafaela Ortega. "The snow has set and many streets are more than five centimetres deep," she said.
Together with the low temperatures, ice patches are developing, so the council in this town in the Alpujarra region of Almeria has given orders to spread salt "to avoid undesirable slips and falls".
"We always have a reserve and we are prepared for this situation as it is normal in winter. What is not normal are the temperatures we have been experiencing. Winter has arrived with force but in a very abrupt way," added the mayor.
The situation is similar in El Marchal, Enix (pictured), where snow fell for several hours on Tuesday night, although intermittent rains prevented it from settling, creating perilous conditions.
"The entrance to the town is icy and it's a bit dangerous to get in and out," said the mayor, Álvaro Izquierdo.
Vamos a ir subiendo fotos de cómo amanecen algunas de las localidades con estaciones meteo en la #RedMeteoSE

Looking at the Andalucia region as a whole, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued yellow warnings for cold weather in the provinces of Cordoba, Granada and Malaga for Thursday morning with minimum temperatures of -6ºC.
Baza, in the north of the province of Granada, has seen the coldest temperature Andalucia this week, recording -6.3ºC at 7am on Tuesday. This was only surpassed by the Sierra Nevada station which recorded -13.8ºC at midnight.
After Baza came Dólar, also in the province of Granada, with -5.6; Laujar de Andarax (Almería) with -4.8ºC; and Vélez Blanco, specifically in the town of Topares, also in Almería, with -4.7ºC.
