Flu vaccination season begins in Region of Murcia with reinforced nursing teams
Almost 400,000 people in Murcia are expected to avail themselves of the joint Covid and flu vaccination campaign
The 2025-2026 flu vaccine campaign in the Region of Murcia began this Tuesday October 14, with everyone in at-risk groups now able to make an appointment to receive it at their health centre.
Flu vaccinations opened yesterday at health centres and clinics for those over 60, while Covid boosters are also being offered to those over 70. Those under that age who belong to risk groups and healthcare workers can also receive these vaccines.
Regional Minister of Health Juan José Pedreño has made a special appeal to healthcare workers in Murcia, since only 37% were protected against the flu last season.
With coronavirus cases on a slight uptick in recent weeks, it's a good idea to take advantage of both.
On this occasion, the regional government has invested €3.7 million in flu vaccinations, which are estimated to benefit nearly 400,000 residents of the Region of Murcia. This year, the target groups have been expanded to include children up to nine years old.
Minister Pedreño announced that in order to improve care for residents, the nursing staff in all health areas has been strengthened "to reach the entire population."
School vaccinations against influenza began on September 29 and were expanded just a few days later to residential homes and social care centres, along with vaccinations against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The flu vaccine and the adapted Covid-19 vaccine have also begun to be administered to pregnant women and people with various medical conditions.
Those who do not belong to risk groups will be able to receive the vaccine in December at their healthcare centre, doctor's surgery or regular vaccination site, provided doses are available.
