Foreign national drowns on Andalucia beach
The Romanian man was spotted floating in the sea and was pronounced dead at the scene
A 54-year-old Romanian man died this Tuesday July 16 on the Playa de Las Salinas beach, in Roquetas de Mar (Almería), according to the Emergency Coordination Centre (Cecem 112).
The man reportedly died from drowning, according to sources close to the emergency services.
The incident occurred at around 4.50pm. It was another person on the beach at the time who called the 112 Emergency services to report that a man appeared to be floating motionless in the water, near the buoys on the beach.
Immediately, the coordinating room alerted the Health Emergency Centre (CES) 061, the beach service, the Guardia Civil, the Red Cross and the Local Police.
After setting up the rescue operation, the team of lifeguards stationed at Playa de las Salinas reached the man using jet skis and brought him back to shore.
Once back on dry land, the man was rushed to the lifeguard station, where they carried out CPR. However, despite the efforts of the emergency services and the two ambulance crews that arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is not known whether he was an expat living in the area or whether he was on vacation in Spain.
