Foreign swimmer, 38, drowns on Cadiz beach
The young man was found floating face-down in the water by another beachgoer

The summer has barely begun and it’s already proving to be one of the deadliest Spain has ever experienced for water-related deaths. A popular beach in Cadiz is the latest to claim a victim: a 38-year-old Italian man who drowned on Monday June 24.
According to police reports, another beachgoer raised the alarm, alerting lifeguards that someone was floating face-down in the water at the popular Santa María del Mar beach.
He was pulled from the water shortly after 6pm and both beach lifeguards and the emergency response unit attempted to resuscitate him for more than half an hour. Sadly, he was then pronounced dead.
The man was at the beach with his parents, an Italian family, according to official sources. The yellow flag, indicating caution when swimming, was flying on Santa María del Mar beach on Monday.
Unfortunately, this is just one in a long line of fatalities already recorded this year in Andalucía.
Earlier this month, a 12-year-old child died after running into difficulty in a private swimming pool in Mijas.
