Foreign tourist swept out to sea in Almeria
The 49-year-old holidaymaker was dragged out by the current in Níjar
The body found at the weekend on a beach in Níjar in Almeria has been identified as a 49-year-old foreign holidaymaker, although his name has not been released. According to official reports, the man went for a swim at the beach on a day when the currents were particularly strong, and he was swept away by the waves.
Shortly before 5pm on Sunday September 15, a person walking along the beach between Los Genoveses and Cala del Barronal called the emergency services to report a body floating in shallow waters. The area where the man was eventually found by rescue workers is known as Cala Príncipe.
Emergency services, including Civil Protection, the Guardia Civil, Local Police, Maritime Rescue and the Emergency Centre (CES) 061, were quickly activated to respond to the situation. The body was recovered by Civil Protection, and the identity of the deceased has been confirmed.
