ARCHIVED - Four earthquakes hit Lorca border within half an hour
The tremors on the Lorca border in the Region of Murcia registered up to 2.9 on the Richter scale
The earth trembled on the Lorca border on Tuesday evening (June 28) when four earthquakes reaching up to 2.9 on the Richter scale were recorded in neighbouring Cuevas del Almanzora.
The first occurred just after 7pm, with a magnitude of 2.2 followed two minutes later by a further seismic movement reaching 2.9 on the Richter scale.
Just seconds later a third of magnitude 2.4 was located in the same area and just before 7.30pm, a fourth tremor hit 2.8.
Cuevas de Almanzora in neighbouring Almería is very close to Huércal Overa and the municipalities of Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras and Águilas. Its proximity meant that residents in Lorca felt the seismic movements, although no damage or injuries have been reported.
The tremors were also felt in the Sevilla province in Andalucia, according to the head of Emergencies, Isabel Casalduero.
"In La Campana locals felt the tremors which is quite normal considering the magnitude they reached, especially the last two," she said.
