ARCHIVED - Gibraltar National Day fireworks display cancelled: September 10
The National Day fireworks display and all receptions have been cancelled because of economic outlook

The traditional fireworks display and all receptions at this year’s Gibraltar National Day, which is celebrated annually on September 10, have been cancelled due to concerns over the current economic climate.
The decision was taken by the Self Determination for Gibraltar Group (SDGG) and the Government of Gibraltar as they feel it is a “prudent decision” that “has not been taken lightly”.
In Spain, the government has ruled that all public buildings must turn off their lights at 10pm, and have released a series of other energy-saving measures for both public and private administrations in order to cut down on energy usage.
Celebrations at Casemates Square in Gibraltar will still take place, and there are a number of events scheduled to celebrate National Day.
Since National Day itself falls on a Saturday this year, the public bank holiday will be moved to the following Monday, September 12.
The SDGG says it expects the fireworks display to return next year.
