ARCHIVED - Granada begins administering fourth Covid jabs
The most vulnerable and immunosuppressed in Granada will receive the fourth vaccine
In a bid to improve the protection offered by the first three doses of Covid vaccine, autonomous communities in Spain have begun or are setting the wheels in motion to administer a fourth jab to the most vulnerable.
And in the Andalusian province of Granada, the health department has announced this week it has started rolling out what it's hoped will be the last round of vaccines to combat the spread of the virus.
The additional jab is aimed exclusively, for the moment, at people with weakened immune systems, known as Group 7; the most vulnerable patients, such as organ transplant patients, and those most exposed to the virus.
Over the past few days, hospitals in the province have been collecting definitive lists to call those people who are eligible and arranging appointments.
The first hospital to start administering these 'extra' jabs is the San Cecilio Clinic, which has stressed the only requirement is to belong to the aforementioned group and to have received the last dose at least five months ago.
Meanwhile, the Virgen de las Nieves hospital is making appointments for next week. Its list consists of 1,200 people, and, taking into account the waiting period between doses, the roll-out is expected to last at least two months.
At the same time, children in Granada will continue to be vaccinated and the third dose will be administered to those who are still not fully immunised.
