ARCHIVED - Granada police stop motorway traffic to rescue stray kitten
The thoughtful gesture has been slammed online by those who say the police risked lives by saving the cat

On their social media accounts, police boasted that “If you have to cut motorway traffic temporarily to save a cute kitten, you cut it, full stop… for the sake of the animal’s own life, which was in danger, and for the safety of motorists.”
Police posted a photo of the rescued kitten online after it had been taken to the vets, saying it was “wounded and quite agitated” but that it “understood that we were there to help”.

The same person said congratulated officers “for their humanity towards the cat” but pointed out that it is “forbidden to stop traffic on the motorway except in case of extreme necessity, and I don’t think this is it”.
Si hay que cortar momentáneamente la autovía para salvar a un lindo gatito, se corta y punto.

Another criticised the policeman who rescued the kitten for not wearing a high-visibility jacket: “If you have to intervene on the motorway you wear a jacket… an officer of the same colour as the asphalt is invisible to drivers and can cause an accident.
“If the Policía Local of Granada does not provide jackets to its officer it is reckless, and even more so if they are working with urban traffic.”
One person even went so far as to say the police officers involved “should be charged for gross negligence and removed from their positions” for endangering road users for the sake of a social media photo op.
