Granada village records two earthquakes in as many days
Seismologists reported two earthquakes this Monday and Tuesday in the little town of La Malahá

On Tuesday afternoon, April 14, the Granada village of La Malahá recorded an earthquake measuring 2.0 on the Richter scale at a depth of 3 kilometres, according to information provided by the National Geographic Institute (IGN), which measures seismic activity in Spain.
This earthquake occurred at 6.43pm, but the low intensity and the depth at which the epicentre was located meant that it was barely noticeable to locals in the small town, which has a population of just over 1,600 and is just a half hour drive from Granada capital.
But this wasn’t the only earthquake recorded in La Malahá this week. Early on Monday morning, April 13, at 4.21am, there was an earthquake that also measured 2.0 on the Richter scale, although on this occasion at a depth of 4 kilometres.
Earlier that same day, a few minutes before, an earthquake of magnitude 2.9 was felt across a significant part of the Granada Metropolitan Area. The quake, with its epicentre slightly north of there, on the surface in Santa Fe, was felt by several people in that part of the province.
According to information provided by the IGN, it was felt in up to 16 municipalities, including Santa Fe, Cúllar Vega, Vegas del Genil, Albolote, Atarfe, Maracena, Armilla, Cijuela, Pulianas, Pinos Puente, La Zubia, Chauchina, Churriana de la Vega, Beas de Granada, Purchil and the city of Granada.
Likewise the towns of Vélez-Málaga and Comares in Málaga province also saw twin earthquakes on Monday and Tuesday, measuring 2.3 and 2.7 on the Richter scale, respectively.
