ARCHIVED - Half of new Aldi stores opened in 2021 located in Valencia region and Andalucia
Ten of the supermarket chain's new openings or relocations are in Alicante province and Andalucia
Aldi is developing an ambitious expansion plan in Spain, and so far this year has opened 22 new stores (six are relocations) with five of them in the Valencia region - four of which are in Alicante - and six in Andalucia.
From January to August, nearly 27,000 square metres of supermarket sales space has been added to the budget chain's portfolio in Spain, bringing the total number of outlets on the Costa Blanca to 60, with a further 82 on the Costa del Sol.
These additions include new openings in San Fulgencio and El Vergel along with store transfers in Orihuela and Petrer, all in Alicante province, and a new supermarket in Alboraia in Valencia.
This equates to 23 per cent of the overall expansion, behind Andalucia where 27 per cent of the company's new stores have been opened (in Roquetas de Mar, Chipiona, Aljaraque, Cádiz, Chiclana and Conil)
The rest are mainly concentrated in Madrid, Catalonia, Tarragona, Barcelona, Basque Country and San Sebastian.
"In order to achieve this expansion and growth plan in Spain, the company plans to expand its logistics area in the country over the next two years by more than 50 per cent", says Aldi, which currently has 108,400 m2 of logistics land in Spain.
This expansion plan includes the construction of a new warehouse in Sagunto (Valencia), and the expansion of another in Dos Hermanas (Sevilla).
