High winds and high temperatures: Andalucía weekend weather forecast September 4-7
Make the most of the fine weather today and tomorrow, as the weekend is not looking so pleasant
A yellow wind warning for Friday and Saturday
As well as almost 24 hours of very strong winds around the Strait of Gibraltar between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, some scorching temperatures are predicted for Andalucía on Saturday afternoon.
There is also expected to be dust in suspension, known in Spain as “calima”, in the air on Saturday, and an overcast Sunday, all making for a fairly disagreeable weekend of weather.
Thursday, September 4
Just some high cloud today
Intervals of high cloud throughout the day with variable light winds, tending to blow from the north east in the afternoon.
Minimum temperatures are up slightly to around 19-20ºC in most places but a chillier 13ºC in Granada, while maximums are also up across the Mediterranean flank of the region and unchanged elsewhere.
The hotspots will be Córdoba and Granada, where it will hit 37 and 36ºC respectively, while the coolest will be Almería and Cádiz, both only reaching 28ºC.
The other provincial capitals will be around 33-35ºC apart from Málaga at 31ºC.
Friday, September 5
The cloud will be thicker around the coast from Málaga to the west
There is a yellow warning for very strong gusts of easterly wind, up to 70-80 km/h, around the Strait from 1pm right through until 2pm on Saturday.
Not much cloud with intervals of high cloud, and intervals of low cloud around the Strait from the afternoon.
Minimum temperatures won’t change much, while maximums are due to drop across the Mediterranean side and remain unchanged or rise elsewhere.
Light variable winds across the Atlantic flank, with a southerly component in the afternoon, while over the Mediterranean side there will be light easterly breezes, increasing to moderate from midday.
Strong easterly gusts will also probably affect the coast of Almería from midday.
Saturday, September 6
Some scorching high temperatures on Saturday
As well as the continuing yellow warning for strong, easterly gusts around the Strait until 2pm, there is another yellow warning for significantly high temperatures around the Guadalquivir valley.
Granada and Sevilla are predicted to hit 37ºC, Jáen and Córdoba 38 and 39ºC respectively, with the coast much less intense, at 29ºC in Málaga and 30ºC in Cádiz.
Minimum temperatures will be much more even, at between 18 and 22ºC around the region.
The skies are predicted to be cloudy with mid and high altitude clouds, and maybe some light rain on the easterly mountain ranges in the afternoon, possibly accompanied by some storms.
Low clouds and fog over the Strait and dust in suspension over the western third of the region.
Most areas can expect light variable winds with moderate southerly intervals in the afternoon, while for the western Mediterranean coast and Cádiz a moderate easterly wind is forecast, weakening in the afternoon.
Sunday, September 7
Highs and lows for Sunday
Overcast skies with mid and high altitude clouds, tending to clear from west to east during the second half of the day.
Minimum temperatures are likely to drop in the western half and rise elsewhere, while maximums should rise across the Mediterranean flank, up to 35-37ºC, and drop elsewhere.
Winds will be light to moderate and westerly.
