ARCHIVED - Hottest and driest Easter Weekend in five years: Andalucia weather April 7-9
The mercury is expected to exceed the 30ºC mark in Andalucia this weekend
Andalusia has not experienced an Easter Week without rain since 2017, and the hot and dry conditions look set to continue into the weekend.
Like the rest of the south of the peninsula, Andalusia is still immersed in one of the most intense periods of drought and anomalous temperatures since records began.
This has brought forward the risk of fires in almost the entire region and will intensify after a further increase in temperatures, extending the extreme risk level to almost the entire Andalusian interior into the beginning of next week.
The Andalusian atmosphere has been dominated by high pressure and dry and sunny conditions that will continue into the middle of next week when there could be a short period of rain, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Over the weekend, thermometers will rise by between 2 and 4 degrees throughout the region.
Friday April 7 will get off to a fairly cloudy or clear start, except in the Strait of Gibraltar, where intervals of low cloud are expected during the morning. Temperatures will remain unchanged, with the exception of areas along the Mediterranean coast where maximum temperatures will fall. A light variable wind is forecast inland, easterly on the coast and very strong gusts around the Strait of Gibraltar.
Almeria: 11ºC to 22ºC
Cadiz: 16ºC to 22ºC
Cordoba: 5ºC to 28ºC
Granada: 3ºC to 26ºC
Malaga: 9ºC to 20ºC
Seville: 9ºC to 30ºC
Low cloud or clear skies will shape Saturday April 8 with daytime temperatures continuing to rise. Light variable winds are forecast with strong intervals in the Levante and Strait of Gibraltar.
Almeria: 12ºC to 21ºC
Cadiz: 16ºC to 22ºC
Cordoba: 5ºC to 31ºC
Granada: 4ºC to 29ºC
Malaga: 11ºC to 22ºC
Seville: 11ºC to 32ºC
Little change is expected on Easter Sunday April 9, although mist is likely on the coast of Almería and the area of the Strait of Gibraltar. Temperatures will remain steady or rise slightly accompanied by light variable winds, except on the Mediterranean coast and Cadiz, where they will tend towards easterly and feel quite blustery in the morning.
Almeria: 13ºC to 22ºC
Cadiz: 14ºC to 22ºC
Cordoba: 7ºC to 31ºC
Granada: 11ºC to 29ºC
Malaga: 13ºC to 21ºC
Seville: 11ºC to 32ºC
