ARCHIVED - Human bones found beside train tracks in Andalusia
Experts are trying to identify the remains discovered in Almería
An investigation has been launched to identify human remains found in Almería after several bones were discovered near the train tracks under the bridge by Avenida del Mediterráneo on Tuesday November 16.
Police sources have confirmed that the remains were uncovered by street cleaners but it has not yet been established whether the body parts are male or female, or if they belong to one or several individuals. The bones were found scattered on the ground and a detailed post-mortem will now be carried out to determine the cause of death.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the remains are definitely human, despite having been worn down by time and natural erosion, but the initial theory that the bones had been thrown from a moving train between the tracks and the Sierra Alhamilla road have been dismissed. Now, investigators believe the fragments were scattered on the ground near the wall that separates the tracks and the nearby road, just a few metres form the station itself.
The discovery of the remains did not interfere with rail traffic, and after the Adif corporate security department was notified, members of the National Police sealed off the scene.
