ARCHIVED - Illegal activity: these are the 7 delivery companies without free helplines
Half of big courier companies skirt the law by forcing consumers to call paid phone numbers for customer support
A new study has revealed that half of the big courier companies operating in Andalucía break the law by forcing users to call paid phone numbers to deal with queries and complaints, according to the organisation FACUA-Consumers in Action, which has slammed seven of the main companies in this sector.
In a recent analysis of 14 postal and packaging service companies, seven were found to be in breach of the law for not operating a freephone number for clients to call. It is a legal requirement for such companies to provide free telephone assistance for customer service and queries to all people, whether or not they are customers of that company.
The seven courier companies that do offer free telephone numbers as required by law are:
- GLS
- Tipsa
- SEUR
- UPS
- Zeleris
- Correos Express
- Nacex
The seven companies that do not have any free telephone numbers are:
- DHL
- FedEx
- Mondial Relay
- Correos
- MRW
- Celeritas
- Envialia
These companies illegally charge consumers for access to information by phone, often at a high cost per minute.
Not long ago, FACUA also found that a similar percentage of major banks in Spain break the law by not having free hotlines.
