ARCHIVED - Introducing the cheapest Menu del Dia in Spain at just 5 euros
The mammoth 4-course meal is located in a Malaga eatery and even includes a drink

Spain is famous for many things: paella, tortilla and of course the 320+ days of sunshine it enjoys every year. But any regular visitor will be familiar with the Menú del Día, or Menu of the Day, an absolute bargain that usually offers a three-course meal plus a drink for an unbeatably low price.
Unfortunately, with electricity prices and the cost of raw materials rising on an almost weekly basis, most establishments in Spain have been forced to up the price of their special menu, and the country’s average has now reached 12.80 euros.
However, there are still a few venues which have managed to keep the bill as low as it can go, and we’ve found the cheapest Menu del Día in Spain: Huelin Market Bar in the heart of the city of Malaga.
Believe it or not, the daily special in this Andalusia favourite will set you back just 5 euros, a price that hasn’t been increased despite the added financial pressures.
Carmen Martín, manager of the establishment and seven other employees who work there, refuses to hike up the price, even though “the bills don’t stop coming in”.
The secret? Buying fresh, local produce from nearby markets.
“In this bar we help a lot of elderly people and people who are on the street,” she explained. The beauty of buying in-season, readily available produce is that the Menú del Día is always varied, the chef designing the dishes of the day depending on what fruit, vegetables and protein are in stock.
For this bargain-basement price of just 5 euros, customers can enjoy a starter, main course and dessert, as well as a drink and a basket of bread. Second courses range from stews and potato-based dishes to eggs, garlic chicken, grilled mackerel and steak.
It’s not hard to see why this restaurant is always packed to the rafters with customers, so if you’re looking for a dining deal, you’d best get there early.
