A 43-year-old Malaga man has been charged with crimes against sexual freedom and indemnity after Local Police discovered several cameras concealed in city centre streets and at the fairground to film people, including minors, urinating.

An investigation began during the early hours of Monday morning when two local police officers carrying out routine surveillance during the city's fiestas noticed a man acting suspiciously in Calle de la Bandolá at around 2.15am. He was repeatedly bending down and standing up, whilst continuously looking around to see if anyone else was around.

When approached by the police, he tried to hide an object which turned out to be a camera.

Using torches they scoured the area and located a further five cameras hidden in areas regularly used to urinate, despite it being a public offence in Spain.

When questioned by police, the man admitted that the cameras were his and during a search of his backpack, the two officers seized two mobile phones, another two cameras, two hard drives, a torch, an mp4, five USB pen drives and 49 memory cards.

A team from the Specialised and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade then carried out searches at two properties related to the detainee.

At a holiday flat used by the 43-year-old in Calle Pozos Dulces street in the city centre, they found and seized several mini cameras - identical to those seized by the Local Police at the fairground - as well as a laptop and a tablet, and a multitude of memory cards and chargers.

A camera had also been set up on the balcony to film an alleyway below.

When they checked the alleyway, another camera was stashed inside a hole in the wall.

A second search was carried out at another holiday accommodation used by the suspect in the vicinity of the Real de la Feria, and on a mobile phone, police discovered "child pornography material consisting basically of photographs of boys and girls urinating in different places and postures".

The case has been handed over to Malaga Provincial Police Station where the National Police have taken over the investigation.
