ARCHIVED - Malaga Mayor to be given an Honorary OBE by the UK
The British Ambassador to Spain will present the award next Monday for services to promoting relations between the UK and Malaga
The United Kingdom has awarded the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, an Honorary OBE (Honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for his services to bilateral relations between the UK and Spain.
The British Ambassador to Spain, Hugh Elliott, will present the award to the mayor on Monday September 5 in the Salón de los Espejos at the Malaga City Hall building.
According to Malaga City Council, one of the reasons for awarding the mayor this distinction is because of “his services to promoting relations between the United Kingdom and the city of Málaga”.
They also point out that, during his 22 years as Mayor, De la Torre, aged 79, has promoted the economic and social development of the city and its residents, the business sector and tourists.
“In addition to his work to promote British tourism in Málaga,” they say, “among the reasons for awarding him the decoration is that he is a great supporter of the British community in the cultural, economic and social spheres.”
