ARCHIVED - Malaga weather warning increased to orange
Strong winds and dangerous waves predicted for much of Andalucía
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has raised the yellow weather warning planned for Thursday November 18 to orange and the alert has also been extended to Friday. The current medium-risk areas include Malaga and Axarquía, where waves of up to five meters and strong gusts of wind are expected.
On the western coast of the province, showers accompanied by strong storms are also predicted.
In both the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce, yellow warnings are in place for an accumulated 15 millimetres per hour, while during the late afternoon the sea poses a significant risk in Axarquía until midnight, with winds of force 7 and 8 expected, in addition to waves up to 5 metres high.
For the rest of Andalusia, Aemet has activated a yellow warning for abundant rains in the provinces of Almería and Cádiz -in the latter also strong winds- as well as an orange and yellow warning for intense waves throughout the Andalucían coast, with the exception of the province of Huelva.
All of Spain is preparing itself for the first winter DANA in the coming days, and in the next 24 hours Almería is expected to experience the brunt of the rainfall, particularly in Nacimiento, Campo de Tabernas and Levante, and in the Strait of Cádiz.
The orange warning for waves will be in place from 4pm in the Strait of Cádiz and from 3pm on the Granada coast, in the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce. Those living in the Poniente area of Almeria and in the capital should be wary of the sea from 6pm on Thursday, while yellow warnings will remain in place on the Cádiz coast from 3pm.
Finally, a yellow alert has been issued for strong gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hours in the Strait of Cádiz from midday.
