ARCHIVED - Malaga and Granada hit by five earthquakes in one morning
The five new earthquakes on Wednesday in Salar, Torrox and Alhaurín el Grande join two more in Malaga on Monday
An earthquake of 3.9 degrees of magnitude was registered at 11.14am on Wednesday September 28, with its epicentre in Salar, in western Granada. The quake occurred at a depth of one kilometer and was felt in other surrounding municipalities, including in Torrox the province of Malaga, though luckily there was no evidence of damage.
According to data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN), Salar was also the epicentre of three other earthquakes of lesser intensity in the same morning, of magnitude 1.6 (at 10.23am), magnitude 2 (8.05am) and magnitude 3 (7am).
As for the strongest one, which was recorded just after 11am, the 112 Andalucía Emergency Coordination Service received seven calls reporting the seismic movement: six from the province of Granada (two from Salar, three from Moraleda de Zafayona and one from Store); and one more call from Torrox (Málaga).
In addition, the IGN recorded this past Wednesday morning a magnitude 2.8 earthquake with its epicentre just southwest of the Malaga town of Alhaurín el Grande, the third recorded in the province of Malaga since Monday.
