ARCHIVED - Man gored and seriously hurt during bullfighting celebrations in Cadiz
Several people were hurt during the Toro del Aleluya celebrations in Arcos de la Frontera, Cádiz last weekend
A man was "brutally gored" and several others were hurt during the Toro del Aleluya Festival in Arcos de la Frontera, Cádiz last weekend, prompting a demonstration by Spain's Animalist Party, PACMA.
The first potentially fatal incident happened at around midday on Saturday April 16 when a bull named Asustado ('Frightened') and weighing 570 kilos was released onto the circuit and quickly took down one of the runners, who had to be hopsitalised with several broken ribs and traumatisms.
The victim was reportedly "surprised" by the bull near San Miguel cultural centre and was knocked against the protective fences of the circuit after falling to the ground. He was gored in the knee and left in a pool of blood before a group of people pulled him to safety and he was transferred to hospital in a serious condition.

There were media reports the man had died as a result of his injuries, but Arcos Town Hall has since denied any fatalities during the controversial festival, the origin of which dates back to 1784.
A second bull, 550-kilo Novelero, entered the circuit at 3pm and, according to the Town Hall "caused other injuries". It confirmed that "one person was injured in the head and, although he also received a blow to the chest which was not serious, he was taken to Jerez Hospital".
A third man was taken to Villamartín medical centre with non-serious injuries.
Animalist Party, PACMA, has since publically condemned the traditional bullfighting celebrations, which made a return after a two-year absence due to the pandemic, and is planning a demonstration at the Palace of San Telmo in Sevilla on Saturday April 23 at 5pm.
Denouncing the event on social media networks, PACMA wrote: "How long will the authorities continue to allow and encourage this? Bullfighting represents suffering and death for animals and a great danger for all people. It must be banned! This Saturday we will demonstrate in #SevillaAntitaurina. Don't miss it!"
