ARCHIVED - Marbella expands local bus service with free travel for 85 per cent of users
Marbella council has expanded its local bus service with two new lines through the municipality of Marbella in Malaga.
As councils in Spain work to encourage the use of public transport, Marbella council has expanded its bus service with two new lines.
The two lines will connect the popular areas of San Pedro and Nueva Andalucia with Marbella and the Costa del Sol Hospital, and join a series of other initiatives from the council to encourage public transport use, including the introduction of a Municipal Mobility Card offering free public transport travel which is currently used by 85 per cent of passengers.
According to the council, the Avanza Group in charge of running the service will now be making an investment of €1.2 million to buy more sustainable vehicles in a bid to increase the number of journeys carried out on the lines and improve services further.
The council is also investing a further €6.2 million into local transport in an effort to improve services for locals and tourists, as well as to encourage the use of public transport.
