ARCHIVED - Marbella mayor accused of hiding assets of 12 million euros
The Malaga councillor has also been linked to her husband’s “illegal activities”
The president of the Senate has been asked to open an investigation into the finances of Marbella Mayor Ángeles Muñoz after her latest declaration revealed that she has assets worth more than 12 million euros. This is despite the fact that she has worked solely as a politician for decades and doesn’t actually receive a salary for her official duties in the Malaga municipality.
For this reason, Councillor Eva Granados believes that the mayor “had lied to the Chamber in the documents presented in relation to her assets”.
Ms Muñoz has admitted to receiving a sizeable donation, though she hasn’t specified the reason or where it came from, and her updated submission on November 16 this year has raised quite a few eyebrows.
In this declaration of assets, the mayor states that she owns 100% of a mansion in Sweden that was purchased in 2005, while back in 2019 she claimed to be 50% owner. Similarly, she now claims to be the overall shareholder of several companies of which she only owned 50% three years ago.
The information from the Mercantile Registry of one business reveals that Ms Muñoz was appointed as ‘sole partner’ on July 7, 2020.
Unfortunately for the mayor, her troubles are just beginning as her notorious Swedish businessman husband has been brought back into the spotlight. Lars Sune Broberg is currently being investigated by the National Court for an alleged crime of money laundering as part of a drug trafficking plot, although the inquiry has been temporarily suspended due to his ill health.
However, the Senate has been urged to continue looking into Ms Muñoz’s alleged dodgy dealings as councillors believe there could be a link between her excessive wealth “and other illegal activities”.
