Maundy Thursday in Murcia: which shops, supermarkets and shopping centres are open?

Good news for last-minute shoppers as most of Murcia's big names are open on Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday falls on April 2 this year and along with Good Friday, it's one of two big holidays in the Region of Murcia during Holy Week. If you're planning to use the long weekend to get some shopping done, the good news is that most major retailers and shopping centres are planning to open their doors.

That said, hours do vary, so it's always worth a quick check before heading out.

Shopping Centres

It's a pretty positive picture across the board for Murcia's shopping centres, with the majority treating Maundy Thursday as a holiday trading day rather than a full closure.

Nueva Condomina, Thader, La Noria Outlet, Atalayas, Dos Mares, Espacio Mediterráneo and Parque Almenara in Lorca are all planning to open, so you shouldn't struggle to find somewhere to browse if you fancy a wander.

Large stores

El Corte Inglés in both Murcia and Cartagena will be open from 11am to 9pm.

IKEA's Murcia store is open slightly earlier, from 10am to 9pm.

MediaMarkt has three locations open in the Region: Nueva Condomina from 11am to 9pm, Ronda Sur from 10am to 10pm and Cartagena from 11am to 9pm. The Lorca branch hadn't listed its hours at the time of writing, so it's worth checking their website directly.

Leroy Merlin is also open, although hours may vary by location.

Supermarkets

Carrefour, Mercadona and Lidl are all open on Maundy Thursday, although hours differ depending on the specific store and location. Mercadona in particular may operate reduced hours at some branches, opening for either a half day or a full day depending on where you are.

Alcampo will also be open as part of the Thader Shopping Centre.

As always, the safest bet is to check the opening hours for your nearest branch on each chain's website before making the trip.
