ARCHIVED - Murcia bans fishing until March 27
The temporary suspension aims to ensure the sustainability of the fishing industry in the Region
The Region of Murcia has put a temporary ban on bottom trawling in inland waters from Monday February 14 until March 27. The measure will also be in force between November 1 and 30, according to the regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment.
The suspension is in line with the Common Fisheries Policy which aims to ensure that marine species have a chance to repopulate and thus maintain the sustainability of the industry.
The order, which has been agreed by the Fisherman’s Guilds of the Region of Murcia, specifies that fishermen who are left without work during the closures may be entitled to temporary unemployment benefit.
