Murcia Corvera airport falls behind other Spanish airports
Spanish airports registered record numbers of passengers this year, but Murcia continues to perform poorly in comparison
The Region of Murcia International Airport had a total of 848,816 passengers passing through its terminal from January to November this year, which is an accumulated growth of 4.2% compared to the same period last year.
In terms of flights during these same months, these increased by 0.4% in comparison with 2022, with 6,409 operations registered.
In terms of passengers in November 2023, Corvera had 23,917 passengers, of which 20,758 were commercial passengers who came from overseas.
Good numbers, right? It seems like the airport is starting to get off the ground again, but look closer and it’s still disappointing for poor old Corvera Airport.
The truth is that last month’s numbers are 11.8% lower than they were in November 2022 and still 41% below those recorded in the same month of 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic forced everything to close down.
This contrasts with Spain in general. In total, the airports of the Aena network in Spain closed November with an all-time record number of passengers, up to 19,743,455. That’s 12.1% more than in the same month of 2022 and 7.6% more than in 2019, before the pandemic.
From January to November, 263,007,328 passengers travelled through Aena-managed airports, 16.5% more than in 2022 and 2.3% more than in 2019.
