Málaga gets a new summer route to Malta
The direct service will link Andalucía with one of the Mediterranean’s most scenic island destinations from May
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is set to add a new destination to its summer schedule, with a direct route to Malta beginning later this spring. The island is known for its rich historical, cultural and natural heritage, and the new link will give travellers from Andalucía an easy way to reach one of the Mediterranean’s most appealing destinations. The route will start on Wednesday May 27, 2026, and will be operated by KM Malta Airlines. Flights will run twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with bookings already available through the airline’s website and app, as well as travel agencies and other authorised sales channels.
Malta has long been popular with visitors looking for a mix of heritage, scenery and seaside relaxation. Its pleasant climate throughout the year makes it easy to explore the UNESCO-listed capital, Valletta, wander through the fortified streets of Mdina, or enjoy the landscapes of Gozo and Comino. For those looking for a more relaxed break, places such as St Julian’s, Sliema and Mellieħa also offer plenty of appeal.
The new service will depart from Málaga on Wednesdays at 6.00pm and Sundays at 11.55am. On arrival in Malta, the flight times will be 8.55pm and 2.50pm respectively. Return flights from Malta International Airport will leave on Wednesdays at 2.10pm and Sundays at 8.05am, landing back in Málaga at 5.10pm and 11.05am. The journey time will be between 2 hours 55 minutes and 3 hours.
For passengers in southern Spain, the route adds another useful direct option and strengthens links with the central Mediterranean. It also gives the airline a chance to widen its summer programme while offering what it describes as comfortable and affordable travel for Spanish passengers.
For anyone already thinking about summer plans, the new connection should make Malta another feasible option. Between the historic streets, the coastal scenery and the island’s easy holiday appeal, it is likely to be a welcome addition for travellers flying out of Málaga this year.
