New pig waste treatment plant in Lorca
The City Council has tendered the land for the implementation of a bio-waste management plant

The City Council of Lorca has published the tender for the administrative concession for the implementation of a bio-waste plant next to the Lorca Waste Management Centre.
Acting mayor of the city, Diego Mateos, explained that he had put out to tender “the administrative concession of a plot of 200,000 square metres, 20 hectares, in the Waste Management Centre, CGR, for the implementation of a bio-waste plant in Lorca.”
He further stated this would be an important step in continuing to help the people of Lorca and, in this case, livestock farmers, via a project that hopes to solve a historical problem of livestock bio-waste management in Lorca.”
The project involves leasing the land in question for 25 years, extendable up to 30 years, and it is hoped that several bids will be submitted and that it will be a definitive solution to an important problem for the Lorca region.
The management of organic waste, especially from pig farms in Lorca, has historically been a big problem that has caused public health outcries in the past. The local government has already passed a law to ensure these pig farms are kept well away from schools and water sources.
