ARCHIVED - Oil runs dry on crashed Gibraltar tanker
There is no danger of further oil or fuel leaking from the beached OS 35

The OS 35 bulk carrier, which has been languishing off the east coast of Gibraltar since it collided with the Adam LNG tanker on August 29, no longer has any fuel or lubricating oil in its tanks, according to the head of the port, John Ghio, this week.
“All the oil tanks have been emptied of everything that was pumpable,” he confirmed.
Likewise, “there is no fuel left on board” and “certainly, no fuel for the operation of any machinery on the ship”.
The collision last month lead to a significant oil spill from the OS 35’s fuel tanks which quickly seeped past the protective perimeter despite efforts to contain the flow. With the stern of the tanker now resting on the seabed after the ship began to sink at the weekend, the authorities are confident that the risk of further marine damage has been minimised.
Technicians are constantly monitoring the Andalusian coast for more spills, and as of Sunday September 18, no adverse developments had been reported.
The captain of the crashed tanker was arrested by the Royal Gibraltar Police and taken in for questioning after he left the tanker with his crew. He has been accused of failing to follow Port instructions and claiming there was nothing wrong with his vessel until it arrived in the Bay.
