Orange and yellow weather warnings issued across Spain: Weekend weather forecast Nov 21-24
Storm Caetano will bring torrential downpours, monster waves and driving winds to much of Spain over the next couple of days
Weather alerts for Thursday November 21
After two DANAs caused historic damage to Valencia and parts of Andalucía, the weather in Spain seems to have calmed down a bit, but the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) isn’t letting us rest on our laurels just yet. Two new fronts are sweeping in from the Atlantic, and they could become explosive over the weekend.
The first, storm Caetano, has already entered Spain over the Cantabrian Sea, and will result in torrential downpours in the north of the country on Thursday and Friday.
The second storm is brewing in the North Atlantic, near the United Kingdom. It is further away, but also more intense, with a cold front that could enter the north of the country over the weekend and lower temperatures considerably.
Thursday November 21
As the Caetano storm deepens, it will result in overcast skies to the north and cloudy intervals in the Mediterranean. The rain will become more persistent and widespread in northern Spain later in the day but rain is unlikely in the extreme south.
Daytime temperatures will tend to increase in the Cantabrian Sea, north-east of Catalonia and the Canary Islands, with slight decreases predominating in the rest of the country, and it will be noticeably cooler in the south-east.
Orange warnings for rain and/or strong winds: Valencian Community, Asturias, Basque Country, Galicia, Cantabria.
Yellow warnings for rain and/or strong winds: Andalucía, Aragon, Balearic Islands, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Region of Murcia, Rioja.
Friday November 22
The entire country will be cloudy or overcast on Friday, although the worst of the rain should stay confined to the north. However, there’s a chance of scattered showers in northern Andalucía and, at the end of the day, in the Valencian Community.
Strong winds and very blustery gusts are forecast in the east of Spain.
Temperatures will tend to fall in the Balearic Islands, the northern half of the country and the extreme southeast of Spain.
Orange warnings for rain and/or strong winds: Valencian Community, Catalonia.
Yellow warnings for rain and/or strong winds: Andalucía, Aragon, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Region of Murcia, Basque Country.
Saturday November 23
The weather is expected to settle down considerably on Saturday and for the time being, there are no active weather alerts. However, out at sea, the storm over the UK will be gathering force, and another cold front will start approaching the west of Spain and the Canary Islands.
This means that the day will be rather cloudy overall, especially in the east, where there’s a good chance of scattered showers.
Daytime temperatures will start to drop in Mediterranean areas although the mercury could climb in the rest of the country.
Sunday November 24
The forecast for Sunday is much the same as Saturday, with abundant cloudiness thanks to the cold front and driving rain in the north of the country.
Winds from the east will prevail on the Mediterranean coast, with strong intervals in the Strait, and daytime temperatures should climb once again across the country.
