ARCHIVED - Over 4,000 new cases, almost half in over-60s: Andalusia Covid update June 21
The cumulative incidence rate and the number of deaths in Andalucía have also risen in the last few days
The Regional Ministry of Health and Families gave their latest Covid-19 communiqué this Tuesday, which indicated that there were over 1,000 more new cases registered in the most recent count than the last one on Friday. Nearly half of these were in people aged over 60 years old.
Deaths are also up, with 33 registered in the last four days compared to 18 in the previous three days.
New infections
On Tuesday 21 June, Andalucía has registered a total of 4,031 new cases of the coronavirus since last Friday – 1,107 more than four days ago – of which 1,899 were in people over 60, bringing the total number of infections in Andalusia since the start of the pandemic to 1,532,044.
Cumulative incidence rate
With regard to the current average incidence of infection in Andalucía in the last 14 days in people over 60 years of age, this has risen to 268.32 points per 100,000 inhabitants, 12.9 points more than four days ago, after having remained at a low level practically since mid-May.
Hospitalisations
Andalucía has registered 38 more hospital admissions on Tuesday 21 June than last Friday, when 480 were recorded, while admissions to intensive care units have increased by five to 27.
Deaths
The number of deaths has risen to 33, compared to 18 in the last report.
Vaccinations
In terms of vaccines, Andalucía has administered a total of 18,563,493 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine up to Monday 20 June – 7,520 more since last Friday – and a total of 7,448,309 people in the region have the full vaccination schedule (two doses from Pfizer, Moderna or Astrazeneca, or one from Janssen), while 7,608,511 have at least one dose.
In addition, a total of 4,359,923 people have received third doses. With these figures, the region has 87.9% of the population with the full vaccination schedule, 95.2% of those over 12 and 91.7% of those over five, while 89.8% of the population, 96.5% of those over 12 and 93.7% of those over five have received at least the first dose.
