ARCHIVED - Over 5,000 new cases in the last 24 hours: Andalusia Covid update July 30
Incidence rate in the past 14 days continues to soar in Andalucía, reaching 568.4 this Friday
The regional government has published the worst number of daily cases so far this week: 5,099 in the past 24 hours, and the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days has climbed to 568.4.
The figure reported on Friday, July 30, is the highest figure this week and the third highest this month, after last Monday and Sunday’s update reported a combined figure of 4,673; Tuesday’s reported 4,754 new daily cases; Wednesday’s, 3,848; and Thursday’s, 4,893 cases.
As has been the case for several weeks, the province of Málaga has the most daily cases; 1,376, followed by Sevilla (1,077), Cádiz (774), Granada (411), Córdoba (401), Almería (383), Jaén (363) and Huelva (314).
Vaccines: 97,185 Covid jabs have been administered in the past 24 hours; 485,592 since last Friday (July 23), meaning that 5.6 million people in Andalucía have received at least one jab.
Hospitalizations: the number of Covid patients in the region’s hospitals has risen for the fourth day in a row and now stands at 1,195, of whom 219 are in intensive care. In comparison, this time last week (July 23) there were 974 Covid patients and 169 people in critical condition.
Recoveries: since the last update, on July 29, 1,725 people have been declared Covid-free; 623,411 in total since March 2020.
Fatalities: eight further deaths caused by Covid have been reported in the past 24 hours; four in Granada, two in Sevilla, one in Málaga and one in Córdoba. The total number of deaths in the region in the past seven days is 37.
The incidence rate in the region has risen by almost 100 points since last week and now stands at 568.4 cases per 100,000 residents, below the national average of 696.31, but above the rate in the neighbouring region of Murcia: 456.64.
As the fifth wave continues to grip the region, Andalucía president, Juanma Moreno, has recently refused to rule out the use of Covid vaccine certificates to allow access to leisure venues, despite the national government’s opposition to this measure.
