Plaza Waldo Calero, Torrevieja
A central plaza with cooling water feature.
Torrevieja is full of green corners and shaded plazas offering relief from the hot summer sun, and one of the most notable is the Plaza Waldo Calero, which is located close to the sporting port and central areas of the urban town.
Its principal feature is a large water feature, along with blue and white Gaudí style ceramic tile seats, which draw their inspiration from the waves of the sea.
The plaza is edged with bars and restaurants, offering a central meeting point and comfortable shade for ice-cream eaters.
The plaza was given its current name in 1975, named after Waldo Calero Idiarte, a former military officer who was Mayor of Torrevieja between the 8th February 1924 until 26th April 1929. He was named Mayor aged 70, so only served for a 5 year period, dying in 1934 after a solid military career during which he fought in the second Carlist Wars.
This plaza is only a 2 minute walk from the tourist office and is close to the portside parking.
