The bi-annual “name and shame” list of companies and individuals who owe more than 600,000 euros to the taxman has been released this week and Murcia-based Holding Polaris World is near the top of the tax-evaders once again.

The real estate development company was responsible for the construction of several golf resorts in the Region of Murcia, including in Torre Pacheco, during the early 2000s. The latest list reveals that the Polaris conglomerate has increased its debt even further and now owes around 300 million euros in total; a debt which is spread over various companies. Polaris World Development owes 23.3 million euros while Polaris Desarrollo owes nearly 22.9 million.

Holding Polaris World is the most indebted company in the Region of Murcia, followed by Desarrollos Nueva Condomina created by the deceased Jesús Samper, an infamous Murcian businessman whose company currently owes 18.1 million to Hacienda.

Mr Samper was also president of the Real Murcia football club for 14 years; an entity which ranks fourth on the list with a debt of just over ten million euros.

Also making the top ten in the Region of Murcia are Sistemas de Montaje y Tuberías Sureste, Ingesmur, Peinsa 97, Proambiente, Construcciones Villegas, Zumos y Conservas Pelícano and CF Ciudad de Murcia.

Some other notable, football-related names in Spain also made the list this time, including Real Madrid trainer Carlo Ancelotti, Barcelona player Dani Alves and ex-footballer Samuel Eto’o.
