Property in Playa Honda and Playa Paraíso
Large apartment blocks and tasteful chalets in Playa Honda on the Mar Menor
Of all the resorts on the mainland coast of the Mar Menor, Playa Honda is probably the one which hasdeveloped most recently, and this is immediately apparent in the types of property which dominate here.
The 50-year-old seafront houses which can be found all along the west of the saltwater lagoon are replaced here by large apartment blocks, although these are edged out of front-line position by some attractively designed two-floor chalets and apartments. In general, Playa Honda has gone high-rise to a greater extent than any of its neighbours to the west, although of course looking north-east it can be seen that La Manga does so to an even greater degree.
Although it’s relatively quiet outside peak season Playa Honda does have both residents and visitors all year round, and the atmosphere is distinctly cosmopolitan and international. There are small stores here but the more extensive shopping and leisure facilities of La Manga and the city of Cartagena are both close at hand, and the resort is well connected by the RM-12 motorway to the road network of Murcia and the Costa Cálida.
It’s tempting to stereotype the property in Playa Honda as being exclusively high-rise, but the fact that the numerous small houses and chalets are dwarfed by their neighbours doesn’t mean that they should be forgotten. Many of the properties are quite new and attractively designed, and none is more than a ten-minute walk from the beach.
This kind of smaller property extends to townhouses in the Playa Paraíso area, which lies at the eastern side of Playa Honda itself. Here the development is comparatively recent, and alongside the neat rows of residential properties is the local municipal sports complex.
