Region of Murcia awarded 33 coveted Blue Flags for 2024
Beaches in Águilas, Mazarrón and San Javier, among many more, have all been bestowed with the honour
It’s that time of year again when towns across Spain wait with bated breath to see if their shorelines, marinas and boating operators will be honoured with the prestigious Blue Flag, a global award that indicates quality, safety and first-class services.
For the summer of 2024, the Region of Murcia will have the privilege of flying 33 flags from June, the seventh highest number awarded in the entire country, but one fewer than last year.
Overall, Spain has won 747 Blue Flags this year. The Valencian Community has come out at the top of the list (159), followed by Andalucía (156), Galicia (125), Catalonia (118), Canary Islands (60) and Balearic Islands (42).
Of these 33 'Blue Flags' awarded to the Region, 27 will be erected on beaches and the remaining six in marinas.
Águilas is once again the municipality with the most blue badges, standing at nine for the 2024 high season. Cartagena gets six, plus a beach shared with San Javier. Mazarrón is left with five. San Javier has two, plus the one shared with Cartagena. And San Pedro del Pinatar receives three. The Mar Menor, however, is once again left without any flag for the eighth year in a row.
Águilas Blue Flag beaches 2024: Calarreona, La Carolina, La Casica Verde, La Colonia, La Higuerica, Las Delicias, Levante, Matalentisco and Poniente.
Cartagena Blue Flag beaches 2024: Cala Cortina, El Portús, Isla Plana, La Chapineta, Levante-Cabo de Palos and San Ginés.

Likewise, the Blue Flag will fly on the Banco del Tabal-Calnegre beach, shared between the municipalities of Cartagena and San Javier and in the latter, a flag will also be raised on the beaches of Ensenada del Esparto and Pedrucho.
As for the marinas distinguished with the Blue Flag in the Region of Murcia, these include the CN Águilas, the Club de Regatas (Mazarrón), the Marina Salinas (San Pedro del Pinatar), the PD Juan Montiel (Águilas), the Real Cartagena Regatta Club and the Yacht Port Cartagena.
Finally, the Las Salinas Visitor centre in San Pedro has also been honoured with a banner and listed as a ‘Blue Centre’.
