Relief from the heat: Spain weather forecast July 21-24
The end of July should be much cooler than expected in most of Spain
Average temperatures forecast on Wednesday July 23
After a drop in temperature in many parts of Spain over the weekend, it seems the end of July won’t be quite as hot as usual, even though we’re right in the middle of the dog days of summer, traditionally the most stifling time of year.
Cold air moving through northern Spain will help keep the heat in check this week but this will create some unstable weather conditions in parts.
The week will start with unsettled conditions moving from north to south. By midweek, the cold air will reach the Mediterranean, bringing storms with lightning, strong winds and possible hail. The Balearic Islands will see the most activity, particularly between Ibiza and Formentera. Eastern regions including Valencia, Catalonia, Murcia and eastern Andalucía will also experience thunderstorms.
Monday July 21

Cloudy conditions are forecast in the north and east of the country with a strong chance of rain, but the rest of the country will be clear, bright and dry.
Most areas will stay below 35°C, with many regions seeing pleasant temperatures between 25-30°C. Night-time will be comfortable everywhere except the Mediterranean and Canary Islands, where the mercury won’t fall below 24-26°C along the coasts.
Tuesday July 22

Northern Spain will remain very cloudy on Tuesday with scattered showers that could extend to southern coasts. It should remain bright and sunny in most of the country though.
Inland temperatures will rise slightly, while coastal Mediterranean areas begin to cool. Most inland capitals will reach 30-35°C, though southern cities like Córdoba could hit 40°C.
Wednesday July 23

The Atlantic weather pattern will continue affecting Spain and the Balearic Islands as we hit mid-week. Northern and eastern areas will see partly cloudy skies with possible heavy thunderstorms, especially in mountainous regions. Afternoon showers are likely across eastern and central Spain.
Maximum temperatures will drop in northern areas but rise slightly in the south, with some areas reaching 34-36°C in the Guadalquivir valley and southeastern interior.
Thursday July 24

The weather should begin settling down a bit by Thursday in the west of the country, but the unsettled conditions will persist in the east, with a chance of storms during the afternoon.
Heavy rain is possible in Catalonia, the Balearics and southeastern interior areas. Temperatures will rise slightly in the far west but fall elsewhere, with only the Guadalquivir and Guadiana valleys potentially exceeding 34-36°C.
