Restaurante Zoco del Mar in Águilas

Chill out with fine dining and spectacular views from the foot of Águilas castle

The Zoco del Mar in Águilas can safely lay claim to being the restaurant with the most spectacular location in the municipality, situated just beneath the castle of San Juan de las Águilas and offering panoramic views out over the Mediterranean, the bay between the headland and the Pico del Aguilica, the town and most of the municipality.

The location is impressive, with a large internal glass-fronted area and external terrace which is cooled by sunshades during the summer months, but the attractions of eating or dining out at this unique establishment in Águilas are of course not limited only to the views.

The cuisine is beautifully presented and is based mostly on local ingredients and traditional dishes in this part of Spain – in a fishing port such as Águilas this means there is an emphasis on fish and seafood specialities, of course, but there is no shortage of appetizing starters, beautifully presented steaks, salad and vegetables (many of them produced in the crop fields of the south-west of Murcia) and, of course, paellas and other rice dishes.

Apart from the variety on the à la carte menu a 15-euro Menú del Día is also available at lunchtime on weekdays, offering a chance to take in the beautiful views while enjoying some of the tastiest morsels available in Águilas.

The menu del Día includes an appetiser, first and second courses, dessert, coffee and water on the table.

For those visiting Águilas for the day (or for a couple of days) Zoco del Mar is an ideal place to eat while taking a trip to the castle, being just a couple of metres from the panoramic lift which carries visitors up to the 16^th century fortress: this structure was initially built as a defence against pirate raiders from northern Africa. Parking at the base of the lift is limited, but customers with restaurant bookings are welcome to take advantage of the FREE bus service which runs between the Plaza de España in the centre of the town and the Restaurante Zoco del Mar during restaurant opening hours.

Alternatively, visitors arriving in groups will be interested in a fabulous all-in package for just 25 euros a head, consisting of a 1-hour boat trip along the coastline on board the Don Pancho tourist boat, a visit to the castle and of course lunch in the Zoco del Mar – many of the highlights of Águilas conveniently organized for you and an ideal way to appreciate the spectacular coastline and the historical and gastronomic heritage of Águilas! This package is available only for groups of 25 people or more and by prior arrangement.
