Retired soldier shoots ex-wife in broad daylight before killing himself in Malaga
The suspected attempted murder-suicide happened in the Malaga province town of Torrox
A former soldier, 69, shot his wife in the chest before turning the gun on himself in a suspected attempted murder-suicide in broad daylight in the coastal Malaga province town of Torrox.
Horrified locals witnessed the terrifying double shooting that left the 66-year-old woman with serious injuries and her ex-husband dead in the middle of Calle José Ariza at around 3.55pm on Tuesday June 27.
112 Andalucía emergency services control room received several frantic calls and Local Police, the Guardia Civil and health services were quickly on the scene, just metres from one of their daughter's home.
According to reports, the pair divorced a couple of years ago and had several children together. The shooter allegedly travelled specifically from Osuna in Sevilla, where he lived, to the Malaga town where his ex was staying with a relative in order to confront her.
Once he had tracked her down, he shot at her twice in the chest area, with one bullet narrowly missing her heart. Thankfully, the contents of a large handbag took the impact of the second bullet. He then fatally shot himself in the head.
The victim was rushed to Axarquía Regional Hospital in Vélez-Málaga before being transferred to the Regional University Hospital of Malaga, where she underwent surgery. Her condition, as confirmed by municipal sources, is described as "very serious".
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the shooting which is being treated as a gender violence incident.
