The latest Covid update published in Andalucía, on Wednesday (July 21), reports 3,560 new daily cases; a slightly lower figure than Tuesday’s (July 20), and eight further deaths caused by Covid.
As a consequence of the rising cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days in the region, which is currently 432.89 (14.43 points higher than the previous day), the Andalucía government have proposed even stricter Covid restrictions in the worst affected areas.
This decision made by the regional government was prompted by the alarming increase in the cumulative incidence rate, which has grown by over 100 points in just a week; the figure reported last Wednesday (July 14) was 312.9.
Fatalities: the number of daily deaths caused by coronavirus is a figure which also appears to be on the rise in Andalucía; last week there were 16 fatalities (July 12-17) and, so far, this week, there have already been 22 deaths (July 19-21).
Hospitalizations: a higher number of Covid cases inevitably leads to a rise in hospital admissions, which, in turn, applies pressure to the health system and healthcare workers, and, in the past 24 hours 114 patients have been hospitalized with the virus and seven more people have had to be taken into intensive care units.
Vaccinations: over 100,000 people in Andalucía have received a Covid jab since the previous update; 106,357 to be exact, and 53.29 per cent of the population have now received both doses (or one Janssen vaccine), while 62.27 per cent have had at least one dose.
Despite the progress in the vaccination campaign, which will be extended to 20, 21 and 22-year-olds from July 22, the incidence rate in the region is clearly on the rise and could soon reach the 500s and 600s, as is the case in the regions of Madrid (513.5), the Basque Country (514.84), Cantabria (607.13), the Balearics (650.17) and Asturias (674.73).
