Roda Golf property owners to vote on padel court project
The decision is to be made on funding for the proposed public sports facility

This Saturday February 22, property owners at Roda Golf & Beach Resort will have the opportunity to vote in an Extraordinary General Assembly regarding the proposed construction of padel courts at Roda Golf Plaza.
The vote will determine whether the property owners will finance the project, which is intended to provide public sports facilities, a café and other amenities for both resort residents and visitors from outside the resort and has an estimated budget of around €2 million.
The project has raised questions about funding, as similar facilities at nearby resorts – such as the Mar Menor Golf Resort, Serena Golf and Santa Rosalía Lake & Life Resort – have not required direct financial contributions from their property owners, but rather have been carried by the private companies building those facilities.
Within a few kilometres of Roda Golf, existing padel courts can already be found at New Level Tennis Los Alcázares, the Mar Menor Golf Resort, Serena Golf Resort, Santa Rosalía Resort, Villaescusa Sport and the San Javier sports centre.
Concerns have also been raised about competition, with some arguing that the facility may need such a competitive pricing strategy to attract users that it will take a very long time until there is a return on the investment.
But most of all, the funding of the project is controversial because some owners question why they should finance a facility that will be open to the public when similar municipal sports facilities in San Javier and Los Alcázares have been funded through public means, and if it is to be funded privately then it should only be for the use of property owners on the resort.
The vote to decide on the funding of Roda Golf Plaza will take place at 10am at Hotel 525, Calle Río Borines 58, 30710 Los Alcázares. Owners who are unable to attend in person can delegate their vote via a proxy, and each property has one vote.
